Weather in the mountains can be beautiful - but also crazy and unpredictable.
Summer temps average in the 70's with lovely cool breezes. Winter months can bring 80+ inches of snow. In between you may find a bit of everything!

Transportation
Getting around in the High Country involves some planning. You won't find an Uber up here!
The roads are well maintained. But the weather here can be challenging. During winter months, a vehicle with all-wheel/four wheel drive and/or snow chains is necessary. During more moderate weather months a regular car will be fine. But be prepared for curvy, steep roads with beautiful views.
If you plan to fly and pick up a vehicle, the closest airports are Tri-Cities (1 hour, 30 minutes), Charlotte (2 hours, 15 minutes) and Asheville (2 hours).
